Corus supports JCB DIESELMAX

25 May 2006

Corus, the international steel company, is proud to announce its support of JCB’s aim to break the world land speed record for a diesel-powered automobile.  The world record attempt will take place in August 2006 at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, in the JCB DIESELMAX vehicle, which will be driven by Wing Commander Andy Green, the fastest man on earth.

As part of its contribution to JCB, Corus has supplied a range of its high strength steels for the manufacture of the JCB DIESELMAX chassis frame.   Commenting on Corus’ support to JCB, Theo Henrar, Managing Director, Corus Distribution and Building Systems said:  “JCB is a company passionate about engineering excellence.  Corus has a strong reputation for combining its material knowledge and engineering expertise to offer customers innovative solutions to the issues they face today.  As such, we share JCB’s passion and are therefore delighted to support them in this exciting world record attempt.”

Mr Henrar continues: “The advanced steel tubes supplied by Corus not only allow for the construction of a lightweight vehicle but importantly offer the strength and stiffness required in the chassis structure to undertake a land speed world record attempt such as this.”

As the Corus co-ordinator for this account, Mr Henrar concludes:  “JCB is also a top strategic customer to Corus.  We supply a wide range of steel products and related processing services to JCB ranging from strip to heavy plate for numerous applications including chassis structures, loader arm and attachment assemblies and hydraulic systems.  We value the relationship with JCB and wish them every success in breaking the land speed record for a diesel powered vehicle in August.”

The current diesel-powered land speed record stands at 235.766 mph and dates back to 25th August 1973.
