The Train Now Standing
21 May 2009
The Corus Plate Processing Centre in Cradley has cut to shape the two frame plates that will form the backbone of the new ‘Patriot’ steam locomotive - 4555 using its plasma cutting facilities.
Called ‘The Unknown Warrior’, the locomotive is being built by The LMS Patriot Project as a fitting memorial to the men and women who fought and died for their country in the Great War and all subsequent wars.
The charity aims to have the locomotive in steam by 2018 – the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice. Iain Perks from the Corus Plate Processing Centre in Cradley, said: “I’m delighted that Corus Steel has supplied the steel for the frames for the LMS-Patriot Project. Corus is a leading supplier of steel in Europe and we’re proud to be associated with this exciting new engine, and wish the Patriot Project team well.”
