Corus Colorsteels get the Italian job
08 Sep 2005
South Wales-based Corus Colorsteels has become a pan-European supplier after landing another prestigious contract with white goods giant Indesit Company.
This new venture supplements Corus' long standing multi-million pound contract to supply the customer's four UK sites with hi-tech materials for producing a huge range of washing machines, tumble dryers, refrigerators and cookers which are sold across Europe - including the Hotpoint, Indesit and Cannon brands in the UK.
Corus Colorsteels is the UK's leading supplier and processor of innovative pre-finished steels, predominantly manufactured at Corus' high technology coatings complex in Tredegar, South Wales. This innovative Corus supply chain is proving its robustness by extending its reach and is now supplying in excess of 1.5 million Euros worth of pre-finished steel blanks per annum to Indesit Company's dishwasher manufacturing plant at None, near Turin in Northern Italy.
Corus Colorsteels commercial manager, Adam Smith, explains: "At Indesit Company's None's request, and following a rigorous technical review and a stringent trial programme, volume supply commenced during late summer of 2004. The project has been progressing smoothly ever since, backed up by a complete service package that reflects the strength and expertise within the Corus team.
"The initial order is for a third of their annual requirement on site but we're working hard to consolidate our position and secure a fifty percent share of output in the not too distant future."
Indesit Company's global sourcing manager, Federico Pecorini, says: "The Corus supply chain led by Colorsteels impressed us with their capacity for rapid product innovation, consistency of finish and their delivery reliability.
"Our products are renowned for their aesthetical appeal, but must also perform to the highest standards - and Corus are helping us to lead the way with innovative, hard wearing materials that conform to our stringent quality and environmental standards."
Adam Smith added: "Looking ahead, we now negotiate centrally with Indesit Company, which offers a platform to jointly develop new products and supply to other manufacturing sites across Europe."
