Graffiti Artists ‘Target’ Dudley Rail Business

Life at the Corus Round Oak Rail site has just become a bit brighter thanks to the efforts of a team of pupils from Pensnett School.
The year 10 Art BTEC group have designed a six metre-long mural that now adorns the main building at the site, and features a special safety awareness logo designed by Anna Tian (15).
The mural, depicting working life at the site took eight weeks to complete, and features the work of a professional graffiti artist.
Robert Last, General Manager at Round Oak Rail said, “Most site managers would be very upset to see a huge graffiti painting appear on the side of their buildings, but this is very different – we love it!”
The idea for a mural arose after another pupil from the school - Luke Felton – spent his work experience time on the site alongside his father Wayne and Uncle Aaron.
“We were really pleased with Luke’s attitude while he was here, and decided to see whether we could build a partnership with the school on the back of his time with us,” explained Robert.
“We asked the art group to design a logo to go with our ‘B Safe @ ROR’ health and safety message, and from that the idea for a much bigger project developed. It brightens the whole place up.”
The benefits of partnerships between industry and schools is one that will help the pupils develop even further, according to Robert.
“Success is not always about exams, it’s about helping young people develop their skills and talents too. People don’t always see the talent that many young people have, partnerships like this allows that talent to flourish and to reach a wide audience.
“That can only be a good thing, and will help them as they grow into adulthood,” he said.
